Calder Response and MoMo133 are Motor Sport Association (MSA) licensed Stage Safety Units (SSU) based in Northumberland and available to cover events throughout the UK.

This is a non-profit making service. The crew are both MSA rescue licensed and trained medical personnel, one being a HPC/MSA Paramedic.

A SSU is a rapid response unit capable of managing an incident and stabilising a casualty until a rescue vehicle/ambulance arrives if required. Many rally special stages use two or more rescue units to provide cover with each requiring a Paramedic or Doctor. Calder Response and MoMo133 are MSA SSU and Paramedic in one vehicle, no need for extra personnel and in many cases cover can be enhanced by including a SSU either per stage or between stages and able to respond as required.

Advantages of including a SSU in your safety plan:

1. The patient(s) receive help quickly from trained professionals.

2. Often the rescue unit is not needed (so if a rescue unit and SSU are at stage start and the SSU responds to an incident that turns out to be minor the SSU can park up safely and the stage can be restarted - no need to wait for rescue to get back to the start!)

3. Stages over 9 miles in length can be covered by a rescue vehicle at start and a SSU at midpoint.

4. A SSU can supplement and improve the overall safety of an event.

5. Calder Response/MoMo133 are MSA SSU and Paramedic in one vehicle, no need for extra personnel.

6. An extra, floating, SSU and Paramedic at any event can give the organisers new flexibility to cover stages and assist with incidents.

Training and Qualifications

As required by the MSA the crew hold MSA Rescue licences and regularly train alongside Calder Rescue ensuring an organised approach and effective management of incidents.

Depending upon the event requirements there will usually be a crew of two, normally one being a HPC/MSA Paramedic and the other being an IHCD Advanced Ambulance Technician / Registered Nurse.

We also support club marshal and official training days and are happy to pass on training and rescue/medical information to help other event officials. Contact us if you are arranging a training day, we may be able to help!

Experience

We are not newcomers to motor sport having over 15 years experience of volunteering in motor sport at all levels and in many roles at events, from marshalling, radio, timing to organisation and of course rescue. Calder Response was setup in 2004 as part of the Calder Rescue team to enhance the safety cover at events, since then we have covered events all over the UK.
